What Jadon Sancho told Bruno Fernandes to do during celebrations in six missed Man United moments

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon to secure their first trophy since 2017.

Erik ten Hag's side took the lead in the 33rd minute through Casemiro, before Sven Botman deflected Marcus Rashford's strike past stand-in goalkeeper Loris Karius before the half-time break.

It was far from a vintage second half - or final in general - but the Reds managed the game well and stopped the Magpies getting back into the game in the second period. The cup triumph was the first under the management of Ten Hag, but United still have the opportunity to win three more honours this term.

Here are six things fans may have missed during United's victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final:

Casemiro's rallying cry

The Brazilian midfielder gave United the lead over the Magpies at Wembley, and he was keen to get the fans going after making it 1-0 in the crunch match. After an anxious wait to see whether his goal would stand following a VAR check, Casemiro gestured to the Reds supporters to keep the good atmosphere going.

Casemiro was clearly pumped up, with the 31-year-old letting out a roar and hyping up the fans once again after seeing the ball out of play for a goal kick. He was quickly embraced by his teammates, with Diogo Dalot slapping the hand of the midfielder, while Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez shouted towards the Brazilian from a distance.

Rashford's cheeky touch

While Rashford wasn't awarded United's second goal of the afternoon, he still played a massive part in it - and deserved to be on the scoresheet. However, he and the Reds will not care too much about who put the ball into the back of the net. The England ace was heavily involved in the build-up prior to unleashing an effort on goal.

It was the 25-year-old who passed the ball to Wout Weghorst, with the big Dutchman doing extremely well to break forward and play the perfect through ball to Rashford. At first, it appeared Rashford had played a simple pass to his teammate, but the United ace actually flicked the ball with his weaker foot. It was, in many ways, a sign of his confidence at the minute.

Defensive dream

The togetherness of the United squad has received widespread praise this season, and if one moment summed it up against Newcastle it was Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all fighting to win the ball back for United. The tricky Bruno Guimaraes had the ball in a dangerous position, but the Reds managed to prevent a clear-cut opportunity.

Fernandes' determination to track back and retrieve possession is one of his most admirable traits. The Portuguese ace has often been influential in front of goal, but his defensive work is also exceptional. It was clear from the very first minute United were desperate to win the trophy as a group.

United fans make Glazers stance

Throughout the game, United fans made it clear what they thought about the Glazers. Chants of 'We want Glazers out' could be heard from the travelling Reds supporters. Avram Glazer was in attendance at the final at Wembley Stadium, and as Ten Hag's side were celebrating, a banner was spotted down below him that read 'Glazers out'.

It all comes amid interest in the club from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, with US hedge fund Elliott Management, who have previously owned AC Milan, also thought to be interested in the Reds. However, the Glazers could still choose to remain in charge.

Maguire's moment

There was a nice moment during the celebrations, with club captain Harry Maguire - who came off the bench in the final few minutes of the final - beating the United crest on his shirt as he celebrated in front of the Reds fans at Wembley. The defender would clearly have liked to have started the match, but he was still buzzing with the triumph.

It has been a difficult campaign for the England defender, and even if he does leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, he will depart having lifted a trophy as the captain of United. He even sang 'United Road' with Weghorst in front of the fans after the game.

Sancho jokes with Fernandes

Towards the end of the game, Fernandes had the chance to square the ball to Jadon Sancho, who was in acres of space on the left-hand side of the pitch. However, United's number eight opted to try and get on the scoresheet himself - and he almost did. Had United not had a commanding lead, the Portugal international would surely have passed.

After the game, as the Reds players celebrated on the pitch, Sancho was filming the antics. As Fernandes embraced the England international, Sancho jokingly said: "Next time you pass?"

Fernandes, laughing, replied: "Next time... next time."
