The brand new animated film, Turning Red is now available to stream on Disney+ - and is a humorous watch for the whole family. The cast of the film includes BBC’s Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh, who plays the main character’s mother, Netflix’s Never Have I Ever’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan who plays a friend in the film, amongst other talented actors.

What is Turning Red about?
Turning Red follows the story of Mei as she discovers her family secret after waking up one day and discovers she is a giant red panda. Her parents explain to her that this is a family tradition that happens, but it has happened to Mei particularly early, so it has even taken them by surprise.
The giant red panda is a metaphorical visualisation of menstruation as 13-year-old Mei learns how to control her emotions whilst understanding she has the power to transform into a giant red panda.

The Guardian newspaper has described Turning Red as an ‘’uplifting tale of menstruation, friendship and embracing change’’. The BBC dubs the Pixar animation as five stars as it calls the film ‘’a hilarious, life-affirming buoyant coming-of-age comedy’’.
Fox 10 Phoenix said ‘’‘Turning Red’ is Pixar at its weird, wonderful best’’. Overall from the reviews, it seems that Turning Red is a relatable, humorous watch that also offers an opportunity for children to learn the importance of embracing change.
