Leon, 6, asks: what is the tallest house in the world?
The White House, Washington DC
Buckingham Palace in London
Falcon Nest in Prescott, Arizona
The home of Sultan Kösen in Turkey, the tallest man in the world
Alice, 10, asks: why isn’t Pluto a planet any more?
Scientists say it’s a star
It has shrunk to the size of a rock
It has moved too far away to be part of our solar system
It’s called a dwarf planet
Blake, 7, asks: how long does it take for light to travel from the sun to Earth?
About 3.5 seconds
Approximately 8 minutes
About 2 and a half years
About 45 million years
Erin, 10 asks: why do freckles come out more in the sun?
Freckles are there in winter, but sunlight means you see them more clearly
When you’re in the sun, your body makes more of a chemical called melanin
To make your skin look sun-kissed and healthy
Freckles just love the sun
Eloise, 8, asks: why do we get pins and needles?
You get them when you’re bored with sitting and want to run around
You get them when the blood supply to a part of your body has been cut off
You get them when you’re feeling angry or upset
You get them when you’re cold – it’s like shivering
1:C - Falcon Nest in Prescott, Arizona, is the world’s tallest single-family home. It was designed by architect Sukumar Pal; it is 10 storeys high – 38 metres tall! , 2:D - Pluto is now known as a dwarf planet. To be a planet you have to be big enough to be made into a round shape by the gravitational orbit around the sun, and big enough to clear any nearby objects and debris. Pluto is round, but hasn’t cleared the area around its orbit so is still a dwarf., 3:B - It takes about eight minutes for light to travel from the sun to Earth – so we only ever see it as it was eight minutes ago!, 4:B - Freckles are made by a chemical called melanin, the same chemical that creates different skin tones and hair colours. When we spend lots of time in the sun, our bodies make extra melanin to protect our skin, and the melanin makes freckles., 5:B - You get pins and needles when the blood supply to a part of your body has been cut off, like when you have been sitting cross-legged and your feet have got squashed. The pins and needles come as the blood flow returns to the nerves.
