What is the latest known about the Texas primary school mass shooting?

The moment former Texas lawmaker Beto O'Rourke interrupts governor's news conference on shooting.

The gunman who killed 19 children and two teachers in their Texas classroom sent three social media posts before the massacre, the state's governor Greg Abbott has revealed.

As more harrowing details of the attack emerged, the Democrat Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke unleashed on Mr Abbott, a Republican, at the end of a press conference, saying: "This is on you."

Here's the latest from overnight.

What did the shooter say on social media?

The 18-year-old gunman, Salvador Ramos, wrote a message saying he was going to shoot his grandmother and another one confirming he had done it.

His final post said that he was going to shoot people at a primary school.

His grandmother — who Ramos shot in the face shortly before attacking the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde — survived and called police.

Mr Abbott said the online messages were the only advance warning, adding that the high school dropout did not appear to have any criminal record nor a history of mental health problems.

However, Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said the messages "were private, one-to-one text messages that were discovered after the terrible tragedy" and that media company Meta, which owns Facebook, was co-operating with investigators.

The company did not say who received the messages nor which of Meta's platforms, such as Messenger or Instagram, was used to send them.

What did Democrat candidate Beto O'Rourke say?

The candidate for the state's governor race confronted Mr Abbott, saying, "This is totally predictable" and "This on you" before being escorted out by security.

Onlookers shouted that he was a "sick son of a b****" for making it a political issue and told him to "go home".

However, outside Mr O'Rourke told reporters the "majority" of Texans wanted something done about guns and gun violence.

"This is on all of us, if we do not do something. And I am going to do something. I'm not alone. The people of Texas are with us," he said.

He pointed out that the Republican governor was scheduled to speak at the NRA convention this Friday in Houston, Texas, and said his "only interest" was the gun lobby.

"He says this was unpredictable. It was totally predictable. And I predict this will continue to happen when you continue to have a governor who will not stand up for the people of Texas," Mr O'Rourke said.

What's the latest on the victims?

The shooter barricaded himself in a fourth-grade classroom and killed 19 students and two teachers before he was fatally shot by a US Border Patrol officer.

The names of the 21 killed are also being revealed, including 8-year-old Uziyah Garcia, whose grandfather said he was the "sweetest little boy I've ever known".

Vincent Salazar said his 10-year-old daughter, Layla, loved to swim and dance to Tik Tok videos.

Mr Salazar proudly posted a photo of Layla showing off two of the ribbons she won at the school’s field day on Facebook.

Each morning as he drove her to school in his pickup, he would play Sweet Child O' Mine, by Guns N' Roses, and they'd sing along.

The two teachers killed were Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia, trapped in the classroom with their students when the shooting began.

"My best friend, my twin was taken from me," Ms Mireles' daughter, Adalynn Ruiz, wrote on Facebook.

Another 17 people were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries from the attack.

The Uvalde Memorial Hospital said 15 of those patients had come through its doors, and 11 of those were children.

Seven of the children have now been discharged and four have been sent to larger hospitals in nearby San Antonio.

The hospital said it had also received two children who were dead on arrival.
