The stars will hit the red carpet on May 1 for the 2023 edition of the Met Gala. This year, the theme for the event — which takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City — honors one of the legendary but controversial fashion icons in Karl Lagerfeld.
“Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” is the official theme title, and will accompany an exhibition at the museum. From the official description:
“Focusing on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology.”
MORE:
Lagerfeld, who spent decades in fashion but is probably most well-known for his time at Chanel, is considered a problematic figure by some. He repeatedly made fat-phobic and misogynistic comments, and even statements against immigration in his home country of Germany.
While the official guest list is private, stars like Serena Williams, Billie Eilish, Zendaya and Lady Gaga have previously stunned at the event. Unfortunately, it seems one of the annual best-dressed honorees — Blake Lively — won’t be making it this year.
You can watch the red carpet stream at Vogue’s website starting at 6:30 p.m ET.
