Norfolk Day 2022 is taking place today, and residents will gather to celebrate the East Anglian county.

Norfolk’s residents have been celebrating their country every July 27 since 2018, after being inspired by neighbouring county Suffolk’s annual day, which was established in 2016.

Events will take place throughout the county, from local fairs, live performances, and activities for children. Plus, the Norfolk Day photo competition winners will be revealed.

Eastern Daily Press editor David Powles told BBC Radio Norfolk: “You remind yourself why you feel so lucky to live in this wonderful county.

“If Suffolk gets its own day, Norfolk needs to have its own day - and it needs to be twice as good.

“In the last few years, people have been forced to appreciate what’s on their doorstep a lot more and realised that, rather than going and standing at an airport, just drive 40 minutes up the coast.”

Norfolk tributes

Norfolk’s residents, leaders, businesses and organisations have been sharing what they love about their county.

Chloe Smith, Conservative MP for Norwich North, said: “Happy Norfolk Day! I’m really proud to be a Norfolk MP because I grew up in Norfolk and I love our county.

“It’s important to me that we can keep the great opportunities for young people in the years to come because I want Norfolk to stay great.”

Broads National Park said: “From our beautiful waterways, to the rich history and rare wildlife that calls Norfolk its home, today we’re sharing in the celebrations of all that is wonderful about this magnificent county.”

Pete Raven said: “Happy Norfolk Day. Here’s to the best of all the counties.”

Theatres Trust said: “Happy #NorfolkDay. The county boasts a wide range of theatres including a mixture of historic, adapted, purpose built and modern buildings, a recreation of an Elizabethan theatre @Maddermarket and one of the only 5 pier theatres in the UK @thecromerpier.”

Norwich City Football Club said: “Happy #NorfolkDay, Canary fans!” and asked their followers:  “What is your favourite thing about the county that we call home?”

Laura Skaife-Knight said: “So lucky to live and work in this beautiful part of the country.”

Chris Jefferson said: “Happy Norfolk Day! What a great privilege it is to live and work in the most beautiful county in England.”
