Red Bull’s star driver Max Verstappen will take on 100 people in a unique go-karting challenge at Silverstone on Wednesday evening.
The four-time F1 world champion, who has been in the sport for 12 consecutive seasons and raced in karting as a child, will line up at the back of the grid against 100 karters from a variety of backgrounds.
Speaking about the event, Verstappen said: "A hundred is a lot, you know, but I think how they've set up the track from what they've shown me, I think it will be good. But it's still going to be hectic, for sure.
"I'm hoping that with my background, I should be faster than most. I hope! I mean, it would be quite embarrassing if they're faster than me!”
But how will the event work and where can you watch it?
How long is the race?
The race around a specialist go-kart circuit at Silverstone – which combines the on-site kart track with an extension onto the grand prix circuit – is 30 laps long.
Verstappen will start at the back of the grid: P101. Qualifying, consisting of one lap only for each of the 100 challengers, will decide the order of the starting grid.
Every driver who is passed by Verstappen is then eliminated from the challenge. All 101 drivers will be in identical karts, all weighing 85kg.
There is also a tactical element: each driver will get access to one “fast lap” in the first 15 laps of the race, giving them a shortcut on the track.
Verstappen will also have access to this, but not until the final 15 laps.
Who is facing Verstappen?
There are no professional racing drivers – but there are challengers taking part from a racing/karting influencer background.
There are also content creators more broadly, including video game streamer Pieface, Love Island 2019 winner Amber Gill and social media personality Alex Haddon.
Verstappen will also be able to communicate with all the drivers via an in-helmet earpiece, as well as the live broadcast.
Where can I watch it?
The event will be shown live on Disney+ (United Kingdom) and ESPN (United States).
Comedian Mo Gilligan will front the coverage, including live race data and drone footage.
The race starts at 6pm (BST); coverage starts at 5pm.
