What is Crunchyroll? Anime streaming service follows Netflix in adding mobile games

Crunchyroll Game Vault is set to launch with five unique titles on Android, soon to drop on iOS as well.

The platform is a firm favourite amongst many anime fans, and is branching out into the lucrative world of mobile gaming.

But what is Crunchyroll? Here is the must-know about the streaming platform.

What is Crunchyroll?

Streaming service Crunchyroll is known for providing anime worldwide and is now offering its Mega Fan members an ever-growing library of premium mobile games.

Available on nearly 15 platforms, including most gaming consoles, Crunchyroll now offers a wide range of mobile games designed to appeal to anime fans, for no extra cost and without in-app purchases or adds.

Crunchyroll has partnered with developers and publishers to publish tactical action game Captain Velvet: The Jump+ Dimensions, beat-em-up action game River City Girls and single-player RPG Wolfstride to iOS and Android.

In addition, the critically acclaimed indie visual novel Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery and food-themed puzzle title inbento are now available within the Mega Fan membership, along with more games promised to be on the way.

‌“Crunchyroll Game Vault is a curated, focused library of premium titles for the global anime fan that loves gaming, adding even more value to Crunchyroll memberships by connecting fans with anime-infused content,” said Terry Li, the executive vice-president of emerging business at Crunchyroll.

“With Crunchyroll Game Vault, we’re also looking forward to working with international developers to bring their titles to mobile for the first time or introduce existing mobile games to the Crunchyroll community.”

Streamers head into the mobile gaming space

Netflix made a foray into mobile gaming at the end of 2021, including 50 games with membership.

With a lot of overlap between anime streaming and anime games, creating a dedicated space for anime fans to also enjoy gaming could certainly pay off for Crunchyroll.
