What Is Clutch Glue? The Female-Founded Company That Just Made ‘Shark Tank’ History

Anyone familiar with the format of investor reality tv show, Shark Tank, knows that delivering a pitch to inspire just one would-be investor is hard enough, let alone several of them. But one Australian-made company just made history by becoming the first ever pitch to secure investment offers from all five of the ‘Sharks’. So what is Clutch Glue, and how did one tiny tube spark a Shark showdown?

At some point in every clothing consumer’s life, there comes a moment (or several) when making certain styles work can feel like an impossible task. Try as we might to alter here, or tweak there, sometimes the sartorial stars just don’t align. And whether it’s a lack of undergarment options, or the fit just doesn’t feel right, the disappointment can be real.

While shapewear has long been the go-to wardrobe weapon of women everywhere, and bra-alternative options from stick on support to backless styles can offer support when needed, there are still those tricky silhouettes that can be hard to find a stylish – and comfortable – solution for.

But what if there was a way to get your fashion fix and avoid any possible wardrobe malfunction, with the wave of a sticky wand?

Enter Clutch Glue – a clothing adhesive that might just be the style solve for our biggest fashion woes.

What Is Clutch Glue?

Clutch Glue is a fashion-tape alternative, liquid clothing adhesive created to help you get more wear out of your wardrobe. Created as an alternative to “unreliable” fashion tape, the glue is designed to stop your clothes from slipping, gaping, rolling up (or down), or simply as a way to help those awkward items fit perfectly.

The company was first launched in 2022, but in need of investment and mentorship to assist with the brand’s expansion, co-owner and founder Annabel Hay decided to try her luck on Shark Tank.

The ‘Sharks’ were so impressed with the innovative product that Showpo CEO, Jane Lu jumped in to secure her bid, with the rest of the investors following suit. Eventually, Hay decided to accept an offer from Davie Forgarty (founder of The Oodie) and Robert Herjavec (an American entrepreneur), who each agreed to inject $200k into the business to assist with global expansion and distribution.

The glue is activated by applying it to the area of skin you want your clothes to adhere to first. Then, once the glue is tacky enough to stick, simply smooth your desired piece of clothing over the strip of adhesive – just like double-sided tape.

But the glue isn’t just for avoiding wardrobe malfunctions, it can also be used to stop your slingbacks from slipping, lift the hem of your favourite jeans or keep your oversized shirt cuffs rolled just so.

What’s It Made Of?

Clutch Glue has been designed for all skin types, especially those who struggle with traditional tapes or stick-on solutions because of their sensitive skin. The vegan, silica gel-based glue is fragrance-free, sweat-resistant, water-soluble, and made locally in Perth, Australia.

How Do You Remove Clutch Glue?

No need to relive the dreaded experience of ripping off fashion tape, or scrubbing sticky residue, Clutch Glue is easily removed with a simple peel and rinse method.

Worried about it ruining clothes? According to the brand’s website, the water-soluble formula is made to come off in your regular wash cycle, or with a gentle hand wash for your more delicate items.
