Forget about the annoying ‘six seven’ craze, because there’s a new kid on the block.
Soon enough your teens and pre teens are going to be annoying you with a new catchphrase that you are probably going to have no clue about.
If you haven’t heard it yet, the word is ‘choppelganger’ - and if you get called it, it is not much of a compliment.
Going viral amongst Gen Z and Gen Alpha on the likes of Tik Tok, it is a pretty creative new term, although, admittedly slightly mean.
What does Choppelganger mean?
‘Choppelganger’ is a mix up of words - used in a way to massively insult.
It is a mix of the words ‘chopped’, which is typically used by teens to describe someone as ugly alongside the word ‘doppelganger’, which is a person who resembles someone else.
Essentially it means you are an ugly version of someone else.
Who is using it?
Well, you can probably guess... ‘the kids’.
And as well as being rife in classrooms, it is also going viral on social media.
One very TikToker, teacher and content creator Mr Philip Lindsay helps with breaking the slang term down.
@mr_lindsay_sped Who’s your #choppleganger ??? 😅 #genalpha #genalphaslang #genz #genzslang

He said he only found out after initially being insulted first.
In the video he said: “I found out about this word because a kid came up to me and told me I was Kirk Cousins’ choppelganger.”
He added: “This word is just beginning to pick up steam and I guarantee you, you will be hearing it from your teens in the very near future.”
And the comments section of his video did not disappoint.
One said: “I've heard this already. My kids told me I was Uncle Fester’s Choppleganger. Harsh,” while another added: “Yep. Already been called a few things but my kids tend to call me the Temu version of people - I suspect it means I am the cheap version of that.”
But many lined up to say it was a great word.
One said: “I’m not even mad at this one. It’s great. Well done Gen Alpha,” while another added: “Spat my coffee out. I love this word. Gong to go and use it on my teen just to watch her cringe.”
While another added: “It cannot be worse than six seven. Let’s take this one as a win.”
Others added that they would be adopting the phrase immediately to make it unappealing to use in their home.
“I love when you post the new ‘hot’ words/phrases. I make a point to use them first to make them so uncool,” added a commenter.
