Meta CEO March Zuckerberg has announced that his company plans to bring Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to Instagram in the “near term”. Zuckerberg announced the plans during an interview with Shark Tank’s Daymond John at a South by Southwest conference.
He didn't give many details on how it would all work, but confirmed that Meta is building the technical functionality that will let users display their NFTs on Instagram. Once the team has worked out the technical challenges, and even “mint” some NFTs within the app.
There's no explanation of what this 'minting' would entail. It could mean that posts can be sold as NFTs, for example. What we do know is that it links into his metaverse ambitions. In the interviews, he reportedly talked about minting your avatar's clothing as an NFT and taking "it between your different places."
