Drivers travelling along a section of the M4 have been left frustrated by long delays created as a result of lane closures whilst barrier repairs have been carried out. An area between junction 46 and 48 has consistently been plagued with tailbacks in traffic since May 30.
Traffic Wales, the Welsh Government's traffic information service for the motorway and trunk road network, has warned motorists to allow extra time for their journeys or find alternative routes altogether as works are carried out.
And now it has been revealed exactly what happened to the barriers to create the hold-ups which have affected hundreds of people travelling along the road this week. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.

The Welsh Government has revealed the reasons behind the damage caused to the barriers. It says on May 25, between junction 46 and 47, a heavy goods vehicle was involved in a collision with the barrier which caused damage.
And on May 27, between junction 47 and 48, damage was caused to the barrier by a pick-up vehicle towing a caravan. It says the works were scheduled outside of the Bank Holiday weekend to "help reduce the impact on the area but due to their nature and the degree of damage, could not take place overnight."
A spokesman for the Welsh Government said: “The works were required to repair extensive damage to the central reservation barriers, caused by two separate road traffic incidents.
“The works were scheduled outside of the Bank Holiday weekend to help reduce the impact on the area but, due to their nature and the degree of damage, works could not take place overnight. We thank drivers for their patience while these works take place.”
