What happened next to Jean-Kevin Augustin as Leeds United reach 'resolution' with RB Leipzig

Leeds United confirmed on Monday that an 'amicable resolution' has been reached with RB Leipzig regarding the Jean-Kevin Augustin settlement figure. Augustin had been the subject of a two-and-a-half-year legal battle between the two clubs after his loan spell in 2020, with the Whites having been ordered by FIFA to pay the German side the €21 million permanent clause in the deal despite not signing him.

The dispute then went to the Court of Arbitration (CAS) which also ruled in Leipzig's favour, and while the finances in the agreement have not been disclosed, a resolution has now been reached. Augustin's temporary move to Leeds has been the start of an extremely tough couple of years for the striker on the pitch, with injuries having prevented him from playing consistent minutes.

So, with that in mind, here is a round-up of everything Augustin has done in football since his exit from Leeds.

Where's he been and how much has he played?

It took Augustin around three months to find a new club, with French side FC Nantes signing him on a free transfer in October 2020. It was a real struggle for Augustin, though, as he made just 11 appearances across two seasons.

He was frozen out by manager Antoine Kombouare before a statement issued by the club in March 2021 confirmed he had been suffering with 'long Covid', which seriously hampered his fitness. He was released by Nantes in the summer before FC Basel took a chance by signing him on a free transfer.

It has been a happier time for Augustin in Switzerland, as he ended his three-year wait for a goal in September when he netted a brace in a 5-1 win against Grasshoppers. All in all at Basel, he has found the net three times across 10 matches in all competitions.

What has been said about him?

Basel manager Alex Frei spoke of the potential they want to unlock out of Augustin: "He has incredible qualities and has huge potential. Our task will now be to bring him back to the level at which he was and belongs."

When at Nantes, manager Kombouare relegated him to the reserves and said: "I have formed my group with those I think are ready to fulfil the club's goal of seeking maintenance. It would have taken time but I don't have one. He is not ready to play the maintenance with the group. He must work now, question himself and I hope he will come back as soon as possible."
