What happened in Everton training as Seamus Coleman asked Kylian Mbappe question

Everton have been continuing their preparations for Monday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.

The Blues return to action for the first time since the conclusion of the international break. Sean Dyche’s side currently sit one place and one point above the drop zone.

And ahead of Monday’s match, Everton have released a behind-the-scenes video of their latest training session - and we've noticed a couple of things that could be of interest to supporters.

Coleman asked Mbappe question

Everton captain Seamus Coleman endured a mixed international break for the Republic of Ireland.

After missing his side’s friendly win over Latvia, the full-back was then a fitness doubt for Ireland’s huge clash against France. However, Coleman was eventually deemed fit enough to start.

Up against Kylian Mbappe, the Everton stalwart put in another fine display, despite his nation being beaten 1-0 at the Aviva Stadium. Benjamin Pavard's stunning second-half strike was the difference between the two sides.

And it appears Coleman’s performance in Dublin did not go unnoticed. As he made his way out to training, Coleman was joined by team-mates James Tarkowski and Conor Coady.

And former Burnley defender Tarkowski couldn’t resist asking Coleman whether he managed to beat the PSG star in a race. He said: “You played so well the other night. Did you beat Mbappe in that race?”

But in true Coleman fashion, the defender just appeared to laugh off the question before getting down to work.

Calvert-Lewin sighting

Speaking on Thursday afternoon, Blues boss Dyche revealed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is 'back out on the grass' training and is progressing well from his injury. However, he is yet to join his teammates in full sessions.

"He hasn't trained with the group but is back on the grass again,” Dyche said. “He has been making progress, which is good.

“He had a slight niggle in a different area but he is making very good progress so we are happy with that."

So it was no surprise that the forward was not captured taking part in his side’s latest training session, but Blues supporters still caught a sighting of the England international. As members of his side came out for the start of training, Calvert-Lewin could be seen in the background heading back inside.

Dyche watching on

As expected, Blues boss Dyche was keeping a close eye on the session. But not content with taking everything in from the one position, the former Burnley chief likes to keep moving.

Dyche could be seen during the session walking around the group as they took part in a number of different exercises. It is easy to see what Alex Iwobi meant when he said that his boss doesn't miss a thing.

Changing things up

Most Everton sessions appear to take place on the grass at the club’s Finch Farm training base. However, in the build-up to Monday’s game, the players headed to the gym for a workout.

Vitalii Mykolenko, Jordan Pickford, Tom Davies, Yerry Mina and Seamus Coleman were captured doing some weight work, while Iwobi, Neal Maupay, Coady and Dwight McNeil did some core strength training.
