What happened during Luis Diaz's first day at Liverpool training

Luis Diaz arrived at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby on Friday for his first training session as a Liverpool player.

The 25-year-old flew in to Merseyside to meet Jurgen Klopp and his new teammates, having been away on international duty with Colombia.

The signing of Diaz has prompted much excitement among the Liverpool fanbase, following his £49m move from Porto in the final few days of the January transfer window.

And Jurgen Klopp , alongside Pep Lijnders, was on hand to welcome the wide forward to the Reds.

Their first meeting was filmed by the club’s media team, with the Liverpool boss greeting Diaz with a hug .

The Reds have since uploaded further images of him meeting several other members of the squad, all of whom gave him a similar welcome.

Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all pictured speaking with Diaz, before he headed out for training.

Though he was not working with the main group ahead of the team’s FA Cup tie with Cardiff this weekend, Diaz did take part in an individual session.

Liverpool’s new number 23 was put through his paces, completing an indoor gym session and making his way on to the grass to go through some solo drills with the ball.

And there was still time for Diaz to do a photoshoot in his new shirt and seemingly take part in a club interview.

Speaking about Diaz’s arrival in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said that the Colombia international may take some time to adapt, but was excited by his addition to the squad.

"He is an exceptional player. He has speed, the skillset and the character to have a really good career and we want him to have that career with us," the German coach said .

"He needs time to adapt to it but that doesn't mean I speak about four or five months. I haven't even seen him yet at the training ground so maybe we should wait a little bit!

"We're really happy and excited with the signing, it's a really good sign that we work on all fronts to improve this team. We have to be successful now and in the future so he can help with both."
