What Glastonbury Festival 2023 goers should and shouldn't pack - according to organisers

Glastonbury Festival fans will be pleased to hear not long is left until this year's event commences, with the iconic occasion taking place June 21-26. In the run-up to the festival, organisers have urged the more than 210,000 music fans to pack specific essentials and to leave certain items at home.

For 2023, the Somerset-based music event will feature the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, Elton John, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi and Lana Del Rey. There are over 100 stages across 900 acres, with many more acts lined up.

For those attending, it can be a fair distance from where people enter and their actual campsite, so not overpacking is key. Your bags are likely to be searched too, so the less you pack, the quicker you'll get inside and the shorter the queue will be for other fans.

Organisers are keen to stress that packing light shouldn't at the expense of neglecting Glastonbury essentials however. Valuables should also be marked with address labels with your contact details on in case they get lost.

What to bring with you to Glastonbury 2023

Some things go without saying, you should always pack your festival ticket, money, mobile phone, its charger and portable battery. But, there are some items you may overlook, for instance ear plugs (if you struggle to sleep with noise), ID and a refillable water bottle.

Here are the official must-packs, according to official advice from Glastonbury organisers:

  • Festival ticket
  • Travel tickets if coming by coach / train
  • Personal ID:
Original ID documents (not photocopies) are needed for: Hospitality tickets, Challenge 21, Lead Booker for coach packages, Sunday tickets
    – Photocopy of ID is okay if a child is under 12 but looks older
  • Driving licence (ideally with up to date address, so it – and anything with it – can be posted back to you if lost)
  • Money/cards
  • Mobile phone + battery pack
  • Ear plugs – to keep your ears from ringing!
  • A reusable water bottle, to fill up from the free taps on site
  • Tent (lines/poles/groundsheet/pegs)
  • Sleeping mat/sleeping bag/duvet/pillow
  • Wellies or sturdy boots
  • Waterproof coat and over trousers
  • Change of weather appropriate clothing (in case you get wet!) including cosy sweater – it can be hot in the day and chilly at night
  • Toiletries including towel/soap
  • Medication if required
  • Next of kin notification
  • Medical info (allergies etc)
  • Toilet roll
  • Sun cream + hat
