What Gary Neville thinks Cristiano Ronaldo should have said to Erik ten Hag after Man United vs Spurs

Gary Neville has told Cristiano Ronaldo how he should have reacted after the incident against Tottenham last week.

The superstar was offered the chance to come on late in the match but refused and instead trudged down the tunnel before full-time. He was dropped for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday and has been training on his own.

Erik ten Hag said he would speak to Ronaldo before deciding whether to integrate him back into the squad. Neville disagreed with the 37-year-old’s actions and stated that United fans may now see him as more of a “whiner” than a “winner”.

Speaking on his podcast, the pundit claimed that Ronaldo should have met with his manager the next day to speak about the incident. “I don't think Erik ten Hag will have wanted Ronaldo to have walked down the touchline and leave in his car,” he said.

“He would have wanted, at the end of the game, for Ronaldo to come on the pitch, hug Erik ten Hag, hug the players, bite his bottom lip, get into that changing room, get changed and go home.

“Maybe then the next day come in and see Erik ten Hag and say 'I think you were out of order last night'. Have that out of sight.”

He added: “There’s a fine line between a winner and a whiner. And at the moment, he might just be turning the Manchester United fans into thinking he’s whining a little bit and he’s sulking a little bit.

“We don’t want that for him, he’s too good, he’s the greatest player I’ve ever seen.” Ronaldo has started just two Premier League games this season, finding the net only twice in all competitions.
