Former Tottenham star delivers decisive verdict on Erling Haaland vs Harry Kane comparison

Arguably the Premier League's two finest strikers were set to face off on Saturday. Tottenham Hotspur were due to travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to take on Manchester City, which would have seen Harry Kane go up against Erling Haaland.

The battle between two of European football's most prolific goal machines will have to wait, however, with the game postponed along with the other nine Premier League fixtures following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

It's no secret that Man City wanted to sign Kane last summer, but a deal couldn't be agreed, with Pep Guardiola's side moving for Haaland this summer as an alternative.

So far, signing Haaland for £51 million has proved to be an incredible bit of business by City, with the Norwegian bagging 10 goals in his first six league games. Kane, a traditionally slow starter when it comes to scoring goals in the Premier League, has bucked that trend by scoring five goals so far. Both players will undoubtedly still be towards the top of the goal scoring charts come May.

The postponed game will be rescheduled in what is already a congested Premier League calendar, but Kane and Haaland are next set to battle on February 4, when Spurs host City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite both players having impressive starts to the season, former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet believes Haaland is 'clear' of Kane.

"They're different players, one is a top goalscorer, Haaland will always be there in the box, waiting for a cross, mistake, pass, like a proper killer," Poyet told Midnite.

"Kane is a great football player, especially in the last few years, he's started dropping and making things happen. Kane is an all-round football player, but I think Haaland is clear, you just know he's going to score even if he touches the ball five times in a game."
