What Everton fans sang at Brighton as national anthem jeered again

Everton fans followed supporters of Liverpool and Tranmere Rovers by singing through the national anthem ahead of their match at Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday.

Across the Premier League and Football League, 'God Save the King' has been played pre-match to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III, which took place on Saturday.

However, the away end at the Amex Stadium made their feelings clear over the events as the travelling Blues belted out their renowned terrace chant 'Spirit of the Blues' and then chanted their team's name during the national anthem's airing on the south coast.

The actions of the Blues' travelling supporters comes just days after Liverpool fans booed the national anthem at Anfield on Saturday. The Reds made the controversial decision to play the anthem despite what was always likely to be an inevitable negative reaction, with the club feeling as though they had been put in a difficult position by the Premier League.

The Liverpool supporters sang 'Liverpool' over the top of the music, in addition to whistles and jeers. One banner in the stadium read 'You can shove your Royal Family up your a***!', with fans leaving no doubt as to their feelings over the establishment.

In addition to Liverpool and Everton, Tranmere fans also jeered the anthem before their game with Northampton Town in League Two on Monday.
