Arsenal's pursuit of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has been a major talking point this month.
The 21-year-old is wanted by the Gunners before the January transfer window concludes, football.london understands, with his form continuing to catch the attention of several clubs around Europe.
Vlahovic has scored 24 goals this term for club and country and has established himself as one of European football's finest young talents.
However, he issued an apology to Fiorentina supporters on Monday evening in their clash against Genoa.
The home side were awarded a penalty in Florence, with the match level at 0-0 early on, and Vlahovic took the spot kick, but his 'Panenka' effort was saved by Genoa goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.
Vlahovic, in typical fashion, made up for his error. After a lofted through ball was played behind the Genoa defence, the young forward controlled it perfectly before producing a delicate lob over Sirigu's head to make it 4-0.
When he did get his goal in the second-half, the Serbian held his hands up to the home crowd - clearly apologising for his cheeky effort from 12 yards out.
football.london reported earlier this month that Arsenal want to wrap up a deal for Vlahovic before the transfer window shuts, but according to Sky Sports, the Serbian would rather wait until the summer before making a definitive decision over his future.
The Fiorentina striker has 18 months remaining on his contract with the Italian club, but a summer move suits him more as he wants to be sure of UEFA Champions League football next season, the report claims.
There have been some questions raised over whether Vlahovic would join Arsenal, but manager Mikel Arteta remains convinced that the best players in the world would still want to come to the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta said this last week: "Historically, this club has been targeting the best players in the world and the best players in the world were always interested to come here.
"I consider that situation hasn't changed. That is one of our biggest powers. Every time I have spoken to any player they were so willing to come, I have not faced any other situation.
"Our capacity to get the attention of people to come to our club, is something that is a big advantage for us."
Arsenal are also pursuing a move for Juventus man Arthur Melo this month, with a midfielder and striker top of Arteta's agenda at the Emirates Stadium.
