Three fingers raised toward Krishna. A wounded Duryodhana lying on the battlefield. And a supposed confession about the three decisions that changed the course of his life. This dramatic story is widely shared as a lesser-known Mahabharata story, but there is an important distinction: the surviving Sanskrit Mahabharata does not contain this famous three-finger conversation in the form commonly circulated online. The epic does describe Duryodhana’s final mace battle with Bhima, his defeat and his conversations afterward, but the three regrets about the Narayani Sena, Gandhari’s blessing and Karna’s weapon are found in later retellings rather than the primary episode
