Dominic Calvert-Lewin has praised Anthony Gordon for the way he has bounced back from recent criticism and revealed what he has been telling his Everton team-mate to keep his spirits high.
Speaking ahead of Everton’s visit to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, Frank Lampard admitted he was 'worried' about Gordon’s recent performances, including the disciplinary record that resulted in him missing the 2-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The England Under-21 international was the subject of a failed £40million bid from Chelsea in August, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also linked with the winger during an eventful summer transfer window.

But to his credit, Gordon bounced back in the best way possible as he scored Everton’s second goal in their 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. And Calvert-Lewin, who is no stranger to being at the centre of transfer speculation or criticism himself, admitted he has been given his team-mate some words of advice over the past few weeks.
He said: “He's a strong-minded boy. That's a big strength of his and credit to him for how he's bounced back from that criticism because in football, things can change very quickly and people's opinions of you can change very quickly.
“I've been part of that at times in my career so I always try and give any words of wisdom and advice that I can to him. I always say that the best way to reply to those kinds of things is to score goals and play well.”
When pushed further on what he has been telling the 21-year-old, Calvert-Lewin revealed: “I just say, from my own experience, just keep believing in what you do, keep believing in yourself and you'll reap the rewards. He's done that today and got his goal.”
