SCOTTISH journalist Isabel Hilton has hit out at controversial remarks made by Liz Truss, with Hilton stating they show “there’s no future for us with a Liz Truss England”.
Earlier this week, Tory leadership frontrunner Liz Truss claimed it is best to ignore Nicola Sturgeon, calling the First Minister an “attention seeker”.
The Foreign Secretary, who polling suggests is likely to become the next prime minister, criticised the SNP leader before once again ruling out a second independence referendum.
Truss, speaking at a hustings event in Exeter, referenced growing up in Paisley before saying: “I feel like I’m a child of the Union, I really believe we’re a family and we’re better together and I think the best thing to do with Nicola Sturgeon is ignore her.”
Truss’ remarks attracted much outrage, with deputy FM John Swinney branding them “completely unacceptable”, and even some former Tory MSPs and Better Together campaigners calling them “inappropriate”.

Speaking on BBC News on Saturday August 6, Hilton commented on Truss’ remarks, calling them “frankly shocking”. She said: “You can’t just accuse her, a serious politician of being attention seeking and saying you’re going to ignore her.
“The SNP has repeatedly been voted into power by the Scottish people. What does that say to the Scottish people? It says there’s no future for us with a Liz Truss England.”
Hilton’s remarks were widely praised, with one person replying: “Liz Truss might just have handed independence to us on a plate… delicious.”

Sturgeon herself broke her silence on Truss’ attacks with a tongue-in-cheek tweet on Friday afternoon.
Sharing a picture of a seal on Twitter, she said: “Spotted this cute seal in beautiful Argyll,” she shared. “I think s/he might be a bit of an attention seeker,” followed by a winking-face emoji.
