What Diego Simeone has said about Joao Felix's future amid £8m Arsenal transfer move

A new striker could very well be Arsenal's title saviour next month. The Gunners are on course to have a much busier January transfer window than previous years following Gabriel Jesus' successful surgery of his right knee after finding them involved in a Premier League title race with Manchester City.

Jesus, 25, is expected to miss at least three months after picking up the injury while at the World Cup with Brazil. Prior to the injury, the Gunners had prioritised the signing of a new wide player and central midfielder amid concerns of the lack of depth within Mikel Arteta's squad.

While Mykhaylo Mudryk's services continue to be monitored by technical director Edu, there remains the possibility that a new centre-forward may be recruited to replace Jesus. The striker had played a crucial role in Arsenal's leap to the top of the Premier League with 11 goal involvement in 14 games since moving from Manchester City in the summer.

Joao Felix is said to be one of the options for the Gunners but they face competition from London rivals Chelsea for his signature. Similar to Arsenal. The Blues find themselves in the market for a new striker after Armando Broja ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

While there is also interest from PSG, recent reports have claimed that Atletico Madrid would be open to allowing the Portuguese to join a Premier League club on loan until the end of the season. Felix's immediate future in Spain comes after the 23-year-old found himself down Diego Simeone's pecking order at Estadio Metropolitano.

Felix has made 18 appearances this season, starting only nine. Angel Correa, Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata have all been preferred across Colchoneros' frontline, resulting in his future being speculated.

As we approach the January transfer window, Simeone has revealed his stance on Felix's future in Spain, claiming his only focus is on success with the club. "I hope we can give Joao some serenity, joy to show what he learned at the World Cup - he's important," the Argentinian said.

“I only focus on Atleti to win. Our CEO words on Joao’s future? Whatever has to happen, will happen. Here no one is untouchable."
