What days Greater Manchester can expect snow as cold snap is forecast next week

Snow could be seen in Greater Manchester as soon as Sunday, with weather experts predicting that temperatures will plummet below zero once again.

Despite highs of 11C being forecast tomorrow (Saturday January 14) this is expected to be short-lived and Sunday will 'turn much colder', with 'wintry showers' in places, the Met Office predicts. The hail and snow showers are expected to start in hilly areas before falling at 'all levels.'

The Met Office's outlook for Sunday to Tuesday (January 17) reads: "Turning much colder with frosty nights and patchy ice. Sunny spells and blustery showers, these wintry on hills on Sunday but falling as hail or snow to all levels thereafter."

Lows of -1C are also forecast Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week, with the possibility of some snow falling in parts of Greater Manchester on those days as the long range weather forecast predicts that the wintry showers will continue. It reads: "Tuesday will see a continuation of sunny spells and wintry showers in many central and northern areas.

"Further into the week colder conditions than of late are expected to continue, with overnight frost and some further wintry showers and ice. However, with time, there are signs that it will turn milder again as weather systems run in from the west, bringing further rain, especially to the west and northwest, and perhaps preceded by snow initially, along with the potential for strong winds or gales at times."

Temperatures are forecast to rise again from Thursday 19 and into the weekend. Looking towards the end of the month, the Met Office said more settled conditions are likely, but northern areas may see spells of strong wind and rain. At the beginning of February, a return to unsettled conditions is most likely, with some colder temperatures expected, forecasters said.
