Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore will don the burgundy and gold for the first time Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. The Commanders acquired Lattimore from the Saints at the NFL trade deadline last month, but he has yet to play due to a hamstring injury he suffered while still in New Orleans.
Playing against your former team is always emotional. Some players downplay it, while others acknowledge that it’s a big game personally. You can put Lattimore in the latter category.
After Friday’s practice, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback spoke to reporters and was asked how it felt to play his first game for Washington against the only team he’s ever played for in eight NFL seasons.
“I’d be lying if I said yes,” Lattimore answered. “It’s like they traded me away. I’m going back to show why they shouldn’t have.”
Lattimore made it clear he was happy to be in Washington but admitted this game provided a little extra motivation.
“You know, I’m happy where I’m at, but you know how it be. Extra motivation for the game, that’s all.”
No pretending from Marshon Lattimore. There is extra motivation facing the Saints in his Commanders debut.

Lattimore was one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks with the Saints. As it became clear that New Orleans wasn’t a contender, trade rumors surrounded him throughout the past year. The Commanders acquired Lattimore, hoping he could help them in this season’s run to the playoffs and over the next two seasons.
