After results went their way on Saturday, a injury-hit Manchester United have the chance to assert themselves in third place - but Nottingham Forest stand in their way.
Erik ten Hag and co may've endured a dismal week, mostly thanks to Thursday's deflating 2-2 draw at home to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals, as centre-back partnership Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez suffered injuries - as the latter even saw his season ended. But their hopes of a top-four finish were boosted after Newcastle and Tottenham both lost their weekend fixtures.
As for Forest, they weren't as pleased with results in Saturday, especially not after Bournemouth scored a 95th-minute winner to beat Spurs. Steve Cooper's team currently sit second-bottom of the table level on points with Everton, who rather surprisingly lost 3-1 at home to Fulham on Saturday.
Now with the chance to climb as high as 15th - depending on how West Ham fare against Arsenal in the 2pm kick-off - Forest will be out for revenge, having lost to United in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. That means the sides have already met three times this season, with Ten Hag's men with an aggregate score of 8-0.
Anthony Martial was responsible for two of those and while the French striker has returned following a prolonged spell on the sidelines, his manager isn't sure about starting him amid their injury crisis. Fellow forward Marcus Rashford isn't expected to play due to injury, meaning Wout Weghorst could return to the starting XI after only featuring as a substitute against Sevilla.
Asked whether Martial was fit enough to start his second successive game, Ten Hag aditted: "Maybe he can, but it's a risk and we can't take that risk in this moment because we don't have so many options in the frontline with [Marcus] Rashford and [Alejandro] Garnacho injured, so we have to be careful."
