What Champions League draw means for Celtic's knockout hopes

Celtic's latest result in Europe means we now have a clearer picture of their ambitions to play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers' side were held to a 0-0 draw by Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian capital this evening.

The Hoops dominated possession but failed to find he breakthrough on matchday six of the UCL.

The result moves Celtic to nine points in the league phase of the competition. They currently sit 17th in the standings, with more games due to be played tonight and tomorrow.

As things stand, Celtic look likely to have enough points on the board to secure a place in the play-off round of the Champions League.

They currently occupy one of the unseeded slots, though. So, in order to have an even better chance of progression to the last-16 and receive a seeded place, they'll likely need to pick up a victory in their penultimate league phase fixture.

This will come on January 22 next year against Young Boys.

The Swiss side have struggled badly in the tournament so far. They sit bottom of the pile in 36th spot on zero points after five games.

The match will be played at Parkhead, so the Hoops will crucially boast home advantage.

They will then travel south of the border to take on Aston Villa at the end of January.
