What caused West Ham star to tell Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo to 'f*** off'

West Ham's Vladimir Coufal has recalled the time he told Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo to "f*** off" during a heated game last season.

United beat West Ham 2-1 at the London Stadium last September as they came back to win after going 1-0 down. Goals either side of half-time from Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard ensured the Reds took all three points.

David de Gea was the hero for United that day as he saved an injury-time penalty from Mark Noble after Luke Shaw was deemed to have handled the ball in the box. However, it is a penalty appeal at the other end of the pitch that has caused Coufal to recall his x-rated outburst.

Writing on Bez Frazi, Coufal recalled being in the tunnel ahead of kick-off as he saw Ronaldo.

"Once again, I am in the tunnel before facing Manchester United," he said. "Again, I turn left and again I see Cristiano Ronaldo. A guy who can have anything he wants in life.

"He can buy an island in the Caribbean, a yacht on which the island can float, or any of the most expensive cars which will be then parked in the villa there. I see his smile which we all know from the ads all around the world. Everyone loves him."

The West Ham defender then described a controversial penalty appeal during the match as he re-watched the moment he collided with Ronaldo.

He said: "What, did I hear that right? 'F*** off!!' I have to laugh watching myself. I feel like laughing right there on the pitch when I say something like that to Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Just like some time ago against United, when he shouted at me something about tripping him in the penalty area, and that I know that should’ve been a penalty. I guess he thought I’d go to a ref and confess.

“'The referee didn’t whistle, no penalty. Play on, we can talk after the game. I waved at him. He was punching the ground angrily and people were booing at him. Telling you this, I laugh again."

Despite Coufal's dig at the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, he did go on to say that Ronaldo is possibly the greatest football player in history. Following these comments, all eyes will certainly be on the pair when the two teams meet at the end of October.
