Rich Robinson is more than just the co-founder and guitarist with The Black Crowes – he’s a student of some of the greatest guitar players in history. “Sometimes you hear a guitar player, and you just know it’s them,” he says. “I remember when The Black Crowes first played with Jimmy Page. He’d just kick in and we’d be like, ‘Damn! That’s him!’ That’s how it is…”
The Crowes themselves have had a tumultuous career since breaking through 35 years ago – Rich and brother Chris are gearing up to release Happiness Bastards, their first album since reuniting in 2019 following a bitter split half a decade earlier – but the guitarist’s influences have remained steady as a rock throughout. We asked Rich to run down the six-string heroes who have shaped him. “I thought it would be cool to talk about guitar players who are unique unto themselves,” he tells us.
