UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Miami after an NBA Finals basketball game on June 9.
The BBC reported the legal letter outlining allegations sent to McGregor, stating the alleged assault took place in a bathroom at Kaseya Center.
The City of Miami has opened an investigation into the matter.
What are the allegations against Conor McGregor?
According to the BBC, Ariel Mitchell, the alleged victim's attorney, stated that her client had been watching game four of the NBA Finals on June 9 when the alleged incident occurred.
Mitchell claimed in her letter to McGregor that her client had been violently sexually attacked by McGregor after being coerced into using a men's restroom by Miami Heat and NBA security personnel.
The alleged victim, according to the letter, managed to escape the bathroom but left behind her purse, which she is said to have retrieved after pleading with security guards.
The letter also mentions that by trapping and isolating the alleged victim in the toilet, security for the league, club and venue "aided and abetted" McGregor.
McGregor has denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, a complaint filed with the Police on June 11, is currently under investigation and no charges have yet been made.
“This is an open investigation so no additional information can be released at this time,” a police department spokeswoman said, as per the BBC.
This isn’t the first time McGregor has been accused of sexual assault.
March 2019
It was revealed in March 2019 that McGregor was the subject of a sexual assault investigation in his native Ireland as a result of an incident that occurred in December 2018.
According to four people familiar with the investigation, he was taken into custody the next month. However, according to a report by the New York Times, he was not charged.
October 2019
Another accusation was made against McGregor to the police the same year by a woman who said he had sexually abused her in a car outside a Dublin bar. The UFC fighter rejected both allegations, but was briefly detained and interrogated before being let go.
No legal action has been pursued over this complaint.
September 2020
In September 2020, McGregor was arrested and questioned by authorities in the French island of Corsica on allegations of indecent exposure and sexual assault in a pub. He was jailed for two days.
They declared that there was insufficient evidence to support a criminal case eight months later. According to a McGregor spokesperson, DNA evidence was collected as part of the inquiry to support his account of what happened.
Other allegations
April 2018
After a UFC media event at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, McGregor and his group were seen on camera throwing loose objects, including a hand dolly and a guard rail, at a bus.
They injured several UFC competitors inside, causing them to miss their upcoming matches, when they destroyed the car's windows and windscreen. According to reports, the attack was meant to get revenge on one of the bus' passengers, UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had argued with McGregor's teammate and close friend Artem Lobov earlier that week at a hotel.
McGregor reached a plea deal that saw his assault and charges dropped, with no sentence. He did however pay restitution for damages and served five days of community service. He also agreed to take a short anger management course.
March 2019
When a fan attempted to take his picture at Miami Beach, McGregor grabbed the phone and crushed it, as seen on a surveillance video. He was detained for several hours after being arrested for criminal mischief and strong-armed robbery before being released on a $5,000 (£3,900) bond and promising to cooperate fully with any investigation.
A month later, the fan dropped his civil lawsuit against McGregor, and after an out-of-court settlement between McGregor and the victim, law enforcement decided not to file a criminal complaint.
October 2021
Famous Italian DJ and TV host Francesco Facchinetti said that McGregor punched him in the face and broke his nose outside a hotel in Rome in October 2021.
Facchinetti claims that he and his wife had been out celebrating for hours with McGregor and the fighter's fiancee Dee Devlin when McGregor suddenly attacked them. McGregor and Devlin had taken their third child earlier that day to the Vatican to be baptised.
He hasn't received any charges and hasn't made any public remarks about the incident.
July 2022
A report emerged earlier this year indicating that McGregor attacked an Irish woman during a party on his yacht on July 17, 2022.
He was accused of threatening to drown the woman and punching. The woman claimed she broke her arm when fleeing the boat and jumping into the water to escape.
The report suggested that an investigative court in Ibiza is looking into the matter.
McGregor has denied the allegations.
