What Andre Onana has said about his Inter Milan future amid Manchester United transfer links

Goalkeeper Andre Onana has already admitted that he would like to stay at Inter Milan this summer amid ongoing reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

United could soon be on the hunt for a new first choice goalkeeper after it emerged that David de Gea is now increasingly unlikely to stay at the club. The Spaniard is out-of-contract at the end of this month and, as things stand, he is not set to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Both United and De Gea had hoped to reach an agreement to extend his Old Trafford stay, but the situation is not thought to be as positive as it once was. Manager Erik ten Hag, speaking ahead of the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City, admitted that he could not guarantee that the 32-year-old would remain the club's No.1 goalkeeper.

With the Reds now poised to be on the hunt for a new first choice shot-stopper, opposed to a back-up option, Onana has established himself as one of the favourites to replace De Gea. Ten Hag worked with him at Ajax and the Cameroonian excelled in his first season at Inter during the 2022/23 campaign.

He played a key role in helping them reach the Champions League final and made a total of 41 appearances in all competitions this term, keeping 19 clean sheets. But despite his importance, it has been suggested that Inter could be forced into selling him this summer to raise funds.

Onana, though, has no desire to leave the Italian giants and would like to stay at the San Siro if Inter require his services.

"I'm so, so happy at Inter," said Onana, speaking after the Champions League final earlier this month. "At this professional level you never know what happens.

"I'm available for Inter, they decide and I will accept what they want. I'm happy at Inter."

Reports elsewhere have suggested that Inter could demand around £50million to let go of the 27-year-old, who made almost 150 appearances under Ten Hag at Ajax. The size of United's transfer budget this summer remains a mystery and Ten Hag is still prioritising the addition of a striker above all else.

However, the prospect of De Gea departing and a first choice goalkeeper being required instead of a back-up option means that Ten Hag's budget risks becoming even more stretched. Diogo Costa of FC Porto and Brentford's David Raya are among the other goalkeepers being linked with a move to M16.
