While Indian-American politicians face regular trolling, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal was told that her parents wasted their money by sending her to the US as she was narrating about how she came to the US all alone at the age of 16. "My parents sent me to the United States, by myself, when I was 16 years old. They had 5000 bucks in their bank account and they used it all to send me here even though I was never going to live on the same continent as them again because they really believed that America was the best place in the world, where I would get the best education and the most opportunity," Jayapal said.
"Fighting for justice and dignity for our immigrant neighbors has never been “just politics.” For me, it’s personal," Jayapal wrote in her social media as she posted the video of her speech.
