Edinburgh isn't known for its affordable house prices, whether that's to buy or to rent.
It's a competitive market and the rental prices are reflecting that with the average rental price in Edinburgh reaching around £1200.
While we love the capital, we were curious to see what else we can get for our money elsewhere.

Capital cities naturally are more expensive than outskirts or villages but we compared what we could get for £600 a month in London, Paris, Berlin, Cardiff and Dublin.
For anything listed at £600 or less in Edinburgh, the majority of the listings were 'rooms to rent' rather than one-bed flats with a number of garages and parking spaces listed around the £200 mark.
Meanwhile, if we stretched the budget to around £800 per month or less, still a very generous amount to spend on a rental on your own, there were 158 properties listed on Zoopla.
Edinburgh
For £600 a month, while most listing were rooms-to-rent, we found this one bed flat on Drum Street in Gilmerton. It consists of a kitchen, bathroom and double bedroom.
The estate agent, Pure Property Management, describe it as: "Great, cozy recently refurbished 1 bedroom ground floor flat with open-plan kitchen/lounge. This flat would be ideal for either a single person or a couple.
"The flat is set back from the main road with a good bus route into the city centre. The flat is located close to a large Morrisons & Lidl. Free on street parking is also available. It has a modern open-plan kitchen with all essential white goods. The bathroom is also modern & clean with bath & shower over the bath."

London
In London, it appeared that the majority, if not all, listings were a 'room-to-rent' for anything £600 and under.
For anything around £600 and under, the size of rooms, and arguably the quality varied, from bright spacey double rooms to 'studio flats' where you could almost touch the sink from your bed.
For £575, we came across this studio flat on High Road, London in the Whetstone area of the city.
This studio flat is described as a 'self contained' apartment which fits a single bed, a wardrobe and a table and chair and a 'fitted kitchen'. The kitchen area fits in the corner of the room and consists of two kitchen cupboards above, a sink, a fridge and microwave. There is also a bathroom with a loo, sink and shower.
The letting agent does also add that energy and water bills are included in the rent.

Cardiff
While rooms-to-rent are also common for this price, we found this bright one-bed-apartment to rent for £595.
With a large living room with traditional features, a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen, you can certainly get more for your buck in Wales in comparison to other capital cities.
Matthews Estate Agent adds: "A very well presented ground floor studio apartment situated close to a wide range of local amenities including: Roath Park Lake, pleasure gardens and recreational ground, the highly popular Wellfield and Albany Road shopping areas, local schools, public houses, churches, Cardiff University and much more."

Paris
Paris is said to be the city of love - but not for large rental apartments if you're on a budget.
For £600 a month, we same across this 'studio flat' that comes with a living space/kitchen and bathroom. The description and pictures suggests that the chair in the kitchen folds out as a bed.
The said kitchen, similar to Londons, is made up a sink, fridge and one cupboard.
There is no washing machine, freezer, toaster or double glazing.

Berlin
Over in Europe, if you're wanting to venture that way, Berlin has the average monthly rent price of £795.90.
Keeping our budget low, we found a couple of studio apartments in our bracket.
In Rudower Chaussee, we came across a studio flat for £589.
The estate agent adds: "The living room is also a bedroom and awaits the tenant with a cozy single bed. A compact table with seating offers sufficient space for eating or working. In addition, clothes can be easily stored in the closet.
"The small, practical kitchen has a lot to offer: A refrigerator, a microwave and a stove for cooking. In addition, there is enough space for the tenant's dishes, cutlery and supplies.
"The modern bathroom offers a shower, a toilet, a mirror and a shelf for hygiene products."
