What £20 will get you at The Hoppings as funfair returns to Newcastle's Town Moor

The Hoppings returned to Newcastle's Town Moor on Friday afternoon for a week-long funfair - and organisers going all out to make sure that this year's will be one to remember.

Alongside it's most popular rides, The Hoppings will feature a number of new attractions, including a food village, a bar, and a live music stage, as it returns to its old stomping ground after three years. The fair has long been an iconic part of the city and is loved by people of all ages.

And there's something to suit everyone, with rides for people of all ages, and a variety of sweet and savoury food, as well as gifts to be won on one of the many games stalls.

With so much to do, it can be easy to spend a small fortune, especially if you're heading there with a family. So ChronicleLive took a trip to The Hoppings to find out what you can get for £20.

Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a foodie, or visiting with children, this is what you could get for your money if you're budgeting £20 for your trip.

Most rides at The Hoppings average £3-£3.50 per ride. Some small children's rides start from £2, while the bigger, faster, rides appear to be slightly more expensive, with some costing £5.

For the thrill-seekers in Newcastle, AtmosFEAR appeared to be a popular choice. People on this fast ride are swung up to 80ft into the sky and spun around in their seats.

The ride costs £5 and although it takes up a quarter of the budget, judging by it's popularity during ChronicleLive's visit, it is worth adding to the list if you're a bit of a daredevil.

Another popular attraction among visitors to The Hoppings on opening day was Tagada, which costs £4. There are no seatbelts or restraints on this ride and everyone sits within one large circular cart which rotates and bounces whilst in motion.

Speed Buzz, which costs £5, has been a top choice for thrill-seekers for years and continues to draw in visitors to The Hoppings. It has a height of just over 118ft and features a car for four people at each end of the ride which spin at a fast pace as the ride rotates.

With £6 remaining there's the option to spend the rest of the budget on two £3 rides, or an additional £5 ride and take home the remaining £1.

Star Flyer, a swing carousel which rotates as it climbs to the top of a tall tower, costs £5 and would end the visit with a slower paced ride. Or there's plenty of £3 rides to chose from if you're not quite ready to head home.

Fast rotating rides, Oxegen and Fighter, both cost £3 each and are sure to get adrenalin pumping.

Those visiting The Hoppings with younger children will find a wide variety of options to keep the kids entertained. A huge inflatable jungle is almost sure to attract their attention with life-sized safari animals visible from the outside.

The Giant Inflatable Adventure costs £5 and is the largest, but most expensive, inflatable attraction at The Hoppings. Others appear to average at around £3 but are significantly smaller.

There are a number of fun houses at the fair, each designed with a different theme and costing on average £2.50. A Jungle-themed fun house and a police-themed fun house both appeared to be popular with children during ChronicleLive's visit.

Car carousel rides located throughout the fair are also priced at £2.50 and continue to be a firm favourite with little ones. Another favourite, which dates back generations, is Hook-a-duck and prices started from £4 to play, with a prize to be won.

The Caterpillar Rollercoaster is also popular ride for children which regularly features at The Hoppings. This costs £3 per ride.

Admission to the Giant Inflatable Adventure and a fun house, as well as one car carousel ride, one ride on the Caterpillar Rollercoaster, and a turn on Hook-a-duck would coast £17, leaving £3 for an additional ride or a sweet treat to take home.

If you're looking to grab a bite to eat at The Hoppings, there are plenty of vendors to choose from including those located in the new food village. Acropolis, Hatch76 Duck Wraps and Whitley Bay Pizza Co. are among the vendors at this year's funfare, along with the traditional burger vans situated throughout the site.

For those wishing to feed the family for £20 at The Hoppings, Whitley Bay Pizza Co.'s 10 inch pizzas start from £8.50 and could be paired with a portion of chips (or two) from one of the burger vans, which cost on average £3 per portion. This would leave at least £5.50 for three cans of pop (£1.50 each) or a little something sweet to share for desert.
