Wexford GAA ref allegedly assaulted during match as Gardai open investigation

GARDAI are carrying out an investigation into an alleged assault on a Wexford G.A.A. referee earlier today.

The alleged attack on referee Michael Lannigan took place at the end of a Wexford GAA Junior 'A' football championship game in Whiterock Hill on Sunday morning.

Lannigan, a member of the Shelmaliers club, is one of the most experienced referees in the county, and the news has sent shockwaves throughout the county.
