Wetherspoons is changing its opening hours in all 800 pubs. It's good news for customers, who were recently left asking 'what the hell is this?' after the pub chain made a change to its iconic menu, which rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.
But now Wetherspoons customers have something to be happy about, as the pub will be calling last orders a lot later than usual. Wetherspoons pubs normally have to shut their doors at 11pm, however, this is changing to 1am.
The change in opening hours will give pub-goers an extra two hours of drinking. There's just one small, unfortunate catch - it's only in place for the King's Coronation.
The opening hours will only be extended over the next Bank Holiday weekend, which is taking place between Friday May 5 and Sunday May 7. Over this weekend, Spoons venues will be able to serve alcohol until 1am, two hours later than the normal 11pm.
If you are considering heading to your local Spoons to celebrate you should be aware that closing time for each Wetherspoons pub does vary from venue to venue. You can check what your local Spoons is doing on the Wetherspoons website.
Wetherspoons is not the only pub chain to take advantage of the more relaxed licensing rules. Chains Greene King and Fullers have said that some of their pubs will also be extending their opening hours for the occasion, says the Mirror.
The extended licensing hours in England and Wales are similar to the ones seen for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last June. This year's extension came after a month-long consultation which was backed by leading hospitality bodies and as well as 77% of the public who took part.
On announcing the extended hours last month Braverman said: "His Majesty The King’s Coronation will be a momentous occasion deserving of special celebration. "That is why I am extending the licensing hours over this historic Coronation weekend.
"Up and down the country, people can enjoy an extra pint or two in the evening while families and friends can come together to wish His Majesty The King a long and happy reign."
