Wetherspoons announces major breakfast menu change after suffering shortages of a key ingredient

Early morning diners who enjoy the occasional breakfast at a local Wetherspoons may see that their full English looks a little different to usual at the moment.

A national shortage of eggs has forced some branches across the UK to completely cut back, unable to include all of the ingredients.

The short-term changes come down to 'temporary supply issues', with Avian flu having a substantial impact on the production of eggs - with Wetherspoons saying that alternatives are being offered at locations where eggs are strictly off the menu at the moment.

Wales Online reports that these include hash browns, sausages and onion rings.

However, it is worth noting that supply issues hasn't affected all pubs - with some reporting business as usual. Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told The Sun : “We can confirm that there are temporary issues with egg supplies at some Wetherspoon pubs, due to the current impact of Avian flu on egg production.

"We are experiencing issues in receiving all the supplies we require to satisfy demand in every pub. This is not specific to Wetherspoon and other hospitality operators and supermarkets are facing similar issues.”

Prior issues have already been made public knowledge with regards to the ongoing bird flu, with some birds being kept indoors while others are culled as farmers attempt to restrict the spread of the virus. Warnings over the availability of Christmas turkeys this year have also been sounded - while supermarkets have also voiced concerns over egg supplies.

However, it's not just bird flu which is currently having an impact. The Sun say that the Market is facing a delayed knock-back from the deaths of millions of birds throughout the summer's heatwave.
