Wet weather expected over the weekend before chance of sunny spells on Sunday

More rain is on the way for Ireland on Saturday, according to the latest weather report from Met Eireann.

The record-breaking temperature from earlier in the week won’t be repeated this weekend, but it doesn’t look to drop too much either.

Met Eireann’s latest forecast, issued on Friday evening, predicts outbreaks of rain and drizzle throughout the country this evening, starting in the west and south and moving northeasterly.

It will be “dry for many” but rain will be “heavy” at times for others, the latest forecast said.

There will also be breezy conditions, with the strength varying from location to location.

Despite this, it will remain mild throughout the night, and will not fall lower than 11 to 15 degrees.

The dull conditions will continue into Saturday. Met Eireann’s forecast said: “A wet start tomorrow with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, and some mist and hill fog.”

While it looks set to clear up north-eastwards in the afternoon, rain will continue to follow from the west. Heavy downpours are expected.

Once again, it will still be quite mild despite this, with highs of 18 to 24 degrees. The midlands and east will be warmest.

There will be strong winds on the coast, with moderate to fresh breezes expected elsewhere.

Sunny spells will appear on Sunday, but not without scattered showers. These will be heavy or thundery at times, especially in the west and north.

The forecast said: “Highest temperatures will range from 17 or 18 degrees along Atlantic coasts to 22 degrees in the east.”

South-westerly winds are also expected, and will be fresh and gusty, even strong at times.
