‘Westworld’ among shows about to be pulled from HBO Max

“Westworld” isn’t just dead following its recent cancellation — it’s being buried too.

HBO Max is removing HBO’s four-season sci-fi hit after it was canceled early last month, Variety reports.

Joss Whedon’s “The Nevers” will also be pulled from the streamer, according to the outlet. The show was similarly recently axed, despite plans to debut the second half of its lone season next year. Those episodes might now air elsewhere, Variety was told.

Though it might seem curious to lay viewers, Variety noted that pulling the programs will ultimately save parent company Warner Bros. Discovery from having to pay residuals to those involved with the series.

Those aren’t the only series shakeups to affect the service’s programming this week, though.

Sources also confirmed to Variety that “Minx,” which was renewed for a second season, is now canceled at HBO Max and being pulled from the platform — another cost-effective decision.

Similarly to the situation with “The Nevers,” producer Lionsgate Television said it’s “working closely to find a new opportunity” for the comedy series, which premiered in March.

Fellow cable network Starz is also engaging in renewal whiplash, through the cancellation of recently renewed “Dangerous Liaisons.”

The show premiered on Starz last month and was renewed for Season 2 just days prior, only to be canceled this week over trouble finding a demographic.
