Inaugural Tailteann Cup winners Westmeath have claimed six spots on the competition’s team of the year.
Top scorer John Heslin, Jack Smith, Kevin Maguire, Ronan Wallace, Sam McCartan and Ronan O’Toole are the Lake County sextet, while beaten finalists Cavan have four places as Killian Clarke, Gearoid McKiernan, Jason McLoughlin and Gerard Smith get the nod.
Sligo were eliminated at the semi-final stage by Cavan in a close encounter and their goalkeeper Aidan Devaney has been chosen along with Evan Lyons and Sean Carrabine.
The team is completed by Offaly’s Anton Sullivan and Leitrim forward Keith Beirne.
GAA president Larry McCarthy commented: “To be part of the history making first ever selection is special and I congratulate the players honoured here and salute all of those who played a role in making the Tailteann Cup such a great success in 2022, something which we will build on in the coming years.”
An independent selection committee decided the final 15, who will be presented with their awards this Friday night at a special black-tie function in Croke Park.
The event will be streamed live on gaa.ie from 7pm and also feature the awards for the Ring, Rackard and Meagher and Joe McDonagh Teams of the Year as well as the overall Players of the Year in the three championships.
