Western Europe is sweltering under a punishing heatwave with France issuing a red heatwave alert across more than a third of the country for Sunday and the government banning the consumption of alcohol during the popular annual Fete de la Musique festivities. Across France, hundreds of schools this week were forced to tweak their timetables to cope.
