West Lothian Council has congratulated local athletes and coaches for their success in this year’s Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham.
The county was well represented in the Scottish team and produced a gold medal won by Fauldhouse boxer Reese Lynch.
The 21-year-old won the light welterweight gold medal after defeating Richarno Colin of Mauritius in the final.

The southpaw wasn’t the only West Lothian athlete to bring home a medal with Shannon Archer writing her name in the history books by becoming the first female Scot to win an individual artistic gymnastics medal at a Games when she bagged bronze in the vault.
A composite motion was agreed by Councillors Diane Calder, Pauline Clark and Craig Meek.
It read: “West Lothian Council notes the fantastic achievements at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham this year where West Lothian were proudly represented by 10 athletes and coaches as part of team Scotland.
“Council congratulates all our wonderful athletes and coaches who took part, a special congratulations goes to our medal winners Reese Lynch from Fauldhouse bringing home gold in Boxing and Shannon Archer winning bronze in artistic gymnastics, in addition to this we would like to congratulate John and Becki Campbell, for their selections as coaches to the Scottish Commonwealth Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics teams.
“Council instructs the Provost to write to all athletes and coaches to pass on our congratulations on their success and achievements, noting the important role coaches play and consider a Civic Reception at the earliest appropriate opportunity.”
Councillor Clark said she had worked with John and Becki Campbell as coaches for gymnasts across the county and said the Commonwealth selection was a recognition of their success with local gymnastic clubs, and well deserved.
