West Lothian schoolgirl allegedly 'attacked by dog' at child's play area

Police in West Lothian have launched an appeal after a schoolgirl was attacked by a dog at a child’s playpark.

The five-year-old narrowly escaped injury when she was targeted by the Staffordshire bull terrier at Almond Park in Livingston on Tuesday, April 19.

Furious family members contacted officers after the owner of the black and white dog failed to keep the animal under control at the play area in the Craigshill area of the town shortly after 2:45pm.

Police say they are now keen to contact eyewitnesses who may have seen the incident and also want to trace the owner to establish the full circumstances.

She is described as 'olive skinned,' in her 40's, around 5'7 in height with long dark hair tied up and a slim build.

The woman was understood to be wearing a red puffer jacket and grey jogging bottoms at the time of the incident.

Offiicers have now encouraged anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them immediately.

Constable Helen Woollven said: “Thankfully there were no injuries in this incident. We’re asking anyone with information to call police on 101, quoting incident 2025 of 19 April.”
