A knife thug sent to prison for attempted murder slashed a fellow inmate on the neck after being told the convict was planning to stab him to death, a court heard.
Daniel Wallace struck first as Robert McCann waited in the lunch queue at a ground floor café in the Forth Alpha Wing at Addiewell Prison, West Lothian. Depute fiscal Roshni Joshi said Wallace grabbed his target from behind before slashing him across the back of the neck with a mystery weapon.
She told Livingston Sheriff Court that the two men then became involved in a scuffle which prison custody officers ordered them to stop. As the guards moved to intervene Wallace broke free and ran back to his cell.
