West Lothian gymnast scoops three gold medals at national championships

A Bathgate gymnast has proven she’s the best in the country after being crowned Scottish champion three times.

Megan Docherty grabbed three gold medals as well as a bronze at the recent national championships.

The 16-year-old Cedarbank pupil won gold in the beam, bars and vault competitions and placed third in the floor.

It caps a remarkable few months for Megan, who picked up the overall gold to go along with a gold and three silvers at the Disability Artistic British Championships in October last year.

The teenage star was in fine form at the event in Perth in what was her first Scottish Disability Masters competition.

Megan was competing at the event for West Lothian Artistic Gymnastics but is also a member of City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club and she has her sights set for more glory later this month as she travels to Liverpool for the British Championships which are set to take place on March 24.

Proud mum Shona McIntyre said: “Megan was feeling confident going into competition although nervous too as she had some new moves in her routines and a new floor routine she had just learned a few weeks ago.

“She had a fall on floor which was her first round but she didn’t let that hold her back. She won bronze on the floor and then went on to get gold in the next three events.”

She added: “We’re incredibly grateful to her coaches and the support she has received at both of her clubs.”
