West Lothian Fencing Club youngsters seal national success

West Lothian Fencing Club continued their string of impressive results this year as members scooped medals at the Scottish Schools Championship - including the club’s first-ever Scottish champion.

Thea Todd took that honour as she won gold in the under-14 girls sabre category.

In the other sabre events, Griffin Manning took silver in the under-16 boys category with team-mate Brodie Macdonald taking bronze.

The pair met in a brilliant semi-final clash with Griffin narrowly coming out on top in a close affair.

In the epee events, Laura Davies continued to bring home the medals with a silver in the over-16 girls, which has added to her collection having previously won Scottish Youth silver and Scottish Cadet bronze medals this year.

Griffin Manning also produced another great result to take silver in under-16 men’s category.

Finally, Cailean Stewart fought hard to take third in the under-14 boys epee and walk away with a well-earned bronze medal.

Zoe Wagstaff, who often trains with the club, walked away with the Master at Arms - the best result across all weapons in her age category.

The club will keep training across the summer in preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Championships and the season to come.
