A community hub that brings together everything from arts and crafts to brass bands has been picked to receive some extra support this month.
The Centre, Livingston has announced its first monthly charity partner of 2023 as West Calder Community HUB.
As part of the mall’s Support in the Community Initiative, the scheme aims to help a different organisation every month to raise funds and awareness by giving them a weekend pop-up space in the mall and also a £250 Gift Card donation.
The charity, which is at the heart of the community, is located in an old school in West Calder that has been refurbished into a large community centre to help bring local people together.
It caters for people of all ages with a wide variety of classes and events, including the brunch club, monthly arts and crafts sessions for children, activity and craft groups for seniors, bowling for over 50’s, after-school multi-sports clubs and a baby and toddler’s playgroup.
The HUB’s member groups also include the Brass Band Club, CJ Dance Group and West Calder Judo and Taekwondo.
It also features a cafe which is open from 9am to 1pm every day, a fitness suite and refurbished floodlit kick pitch plus a sports hall and meeting rooms, which are available for private hire.
The team also run a community shop, where kind-hearted locals drop off donations of everything from essential food items to toiletries and cleaning products.
Their ethos is to work in partnership with local supermarkets to help anyone who is finding it a little bit tough at the moment and also to help reduce food waste.
As part of their charity partnership, West Calder Community HUB will be in the mall on Saturday, January 14 and Sunday January 15 to raise awareness of the services and support they offer and also appeal for volunteers to allow them to help even more people in the area.
Leanne Mallaney, Community Development Worker, West Calder Community HUB, said: “We would like to thank The Centre, Livingston for choosing West Calder Hub to be their first 2023 Charity of the Month.
“Their support will really help us to raise even more awareness of all the services, events, clubs and classes we run for local people in the community and the Gift Card donation of £250 will go towards helping families in the area, which we’re immensely grateful for.”
Patrick Robbertze, Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston, added: “West Calder Community HUB plays such an important role in the community, bringing people together and running their ‘Community Shop’ which is why we’re really looking forward to having them in the mall to help them raise awareness of the fantastic work they do.”
