West Lothian College has been recognised at national awards ceremony, picking up three prestigious awards.
Staff and students at West Lothian College were recognised with awards at the College Development Network’s annual college awards ceremony in Glasgow.
Of the 160 entries from colleges across Scotland, West Lothian College secured three of the 36 shortlisted nominations, achieving two highly commended and one commended award.
Professional cookery lecturer Paul Devonshire was highly commended in the Learning and Teaching Colleague of the Year Award category.
Judges were impressed with Paul’s rich industry experience and how he uses his growing network of industry contacts to enhance the learning experience and employability prospects of his students.
The team behind the college’s TRUST Project received high commendation from the judges for the Inclusive College Award for their personalised wraparound service for young people who have struggled at school, experienced trauma in their lives, or have had experience with the justice system.
Jinty Dobson received a commended Student of the Year Award for completing two qualifications while serving as student president during the worst pandemic year experienced by students.
The judges were impressed with the excellent support she gave students impacted by poverty and mental health over the year.
West Lothian College principal, Jackie Galbraith said: “The work of Paul, Jinty and everyone involved in our TRUST Project were rightly recognised at the national college awards and I was very proud to celebrate this with them at the awards ceremony. West Lothian College is increasingly seen as an innovative and caring college, with many seeking to emulate what we do.
“This is down to the excellent work of our staff and students, and I am excited to see the impact of that in 2023!”
