Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has selected three West Lothian charities to benefit from its Community Chest of £750 - with each receiving £250 to boost their bank account and spend on good causes for the local community.
The company, who is building new homes in East Calder, launched a campaign that generated over 40 nominations with three being selected as the winners. The organisations that will share the pot are Diversified, Neil's Hugs Foundation and West Lothian Litter Pickers.
Diversified is Scotland's first autistic and neurodivergent youth-led charity with Nicole commenting: "This financial boost from Taylor Wimpey will go towards providing our summer holiday club that will be supporting over 50 young people with a variety of activities to keep them busy and engaged throughout the holidays.
"We are a very small charity, which was set up by my daughter Kaydi in 2021, so we are just really getting established. It’s lovely that local people in West Lothian have heard about the work that we do and put us forward to receive a share of Taylor Wimpey’s Calderwood Community Chest.”
The donation is also welcomed by Donna Paterson-Harvie, Founder of Neil’s Hugs Foundation who said: "This donation from Taylor Wimpey will help towards our work in the community providing ongoing support for those struggling to cope when their life has been affected by the attempted or completed suicide of a loved one or people struggling with mental ill health.
"We believe early intervention is key to suicide reduction so working with vulnerable groups is important to us and this donation will help us to continue that work.
"For us to be nominated by members of the local community makes this donation incredibly special. We would like to thank everyone who suggested us for the donation and for Taylor Wimpey who are helping us to help others.”
Jason Wilcox from West Lothian Litter Pickers added: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received a share of this local donation from Taylor Wimpey which we will use to provide our ever-growing band of volunteers with the equipment and support they need to keep the local area tidy.
"Being nominated by members of our own community shows that local people do really notice the difference that we make.”
Kirsty McGill, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “Our Community Chest project is a great way to find out more about the groups and organisations that really do make a difference to the lives of people living locally near our developments.
"We were delighted to learn more about these local projects, and to find out how our donations will support them while we continue to play our role in the local community as our development of new homes at Calderwood progresses.”
